Cotton Double Bed Jaipuri Razai Quilt, The craft of quilting in Jaipur is known as RAZAI. RAZAI is similar to a duvet or a bed comforter, and is usually constructed of hand spun and hand woven khadi as the fabric shell, carded cotton for the stuffing, which is also manually carded using a pindar (a bow-like instrument), and hand needle stitching.
Though the origins of Jaipuri RAZAI are unknown, it is thought to be linked to the rigorous vegetarian regulations imposed by the Vishnuism (a Hindu sect that preaches Lord Vishnu presently known as Vaishnav) in the 16th century AD. Leather and wool were banned in certain religious sects in India at the time due to these regulations. The frigid winters in Rajasthan, on the other hand, encouraged people to quilt bedcovers, garments, and other items They used a floor spread and whatever they considered to be a thick surface.
