Nehru Jacket

Nehru Jacket is a piece of clothing that has been associated with India and its well-known distinctive look. This is one of the few pieces of men’s clothing that has carved out a niche for itself around the world. The Nehru jacket has become the country’s most stylish garment, full of adaptability and denoting a true gentleman.

Ironically, Nehru wore various iconic clothing during his public life, most notably a bundi with a kurta or the achkan during the winter from 1947 to 1964. The Nehru Jacket became a global sensation as these characteristic garments developed a significant following in rural India.

The Nehru Jacket story

There were numerous forerunners to the Nehru Jacket before it became the icon that it is today. It is thought that the first garment that resembled it appeared in the 10th century. These shirts resembled a double-breasted jacket with closed enclosures, similar to the Nehru jacket, which appeared much later.

With the invasion of India by the Mughals, long kurta-style shirts became popular. These, too, had a striking resemblance to the jacket in question. Embroidered kurtas appeared shortly after and quickly became a popular choice among the public. They were known as achkans and were a favourite of Nehru’s.

Apart from achkans, Nehru’s favourite garment was the sherwani. The Nehru Jacket, which he created by combining and concocting his own type of apparel, first appeared in early 1940 and has remained in circulation ever since.

Nehru’s jacket is made of khadi, a traditional Indian fabric. Other countries, however, improvise on the material basis of their climatic conditions due to its worldwide appeal.

West Effect

The Beatles wore the Nehru jacket as a group in 1960, and it quickly became fashionable. It also gained popular after appearing in a few Hollywood films. Since then, this jacket has become fairly popular in the west, and people there have created their own versions of it, but it is still known by its original name.

Nehru Jacket Today

This jacket is not only today’s gentleman’s apparel, but it’s also a stylish show-stopper. It is fashionable, stylish, and appealing, and its weaving and appearance naturally inspire confidence.

What’s more, this globally recognised men’s apparel brand is perhaps the only one that has carved out a space for itself on every level of brilliance, and has done us Indians proud.
