Kanchipuram Saree

Kanchipuram Sarees are one of the most famous sarees in India owing to its beauty because of the zari work. They present the rich culture from South India and have become a symbol of traditional charm. Kanjivaram Sarees have also become an heirloom that gets passed from generation to generation. The blend of silk from South India and zari from Gujarat added in different hues improves the beauty of Kanjivaram Sarees. The varying pastels with contrasting borders and intrinsic artwork make these sarees a special outfit for any traditional or grand soiree.

WHAT MAKES KANJIVARAM SAREE SO UNIQUE?
There is a unique characteristic about Kanchipuram sarees that differentiates it from the rest of the silk sarees manufactured in India. The weaving method uses three shuttles. These sarees have very distinct and vibrant colours which are complementary to one another. The border, the pallu and the body of the saree are usually different colours. Hence, they are woven separately. This unique technique is known as Korvai that uses interlocked weft weaving technique. The Petni Technique refers to the pallu being woven in a different colour that requires changes in warp. It is adorned with heavy zari motifs whereas the body of the saree is woven in simplistic designs and patterns, inspired from the Dravidian era.

These two pieces of fabric are joined together in a zig-zag pattern at the end, which makes it extremely strong.
Traditional Kanchipuram sarees are not just for the womenfolk but are also equally appreciated by men. It was worn by the royal families as a dhoti, draped as a shawl on their chest or adorned on their heads in a beautiful turban. While they give a very sober look to the wearer and are perfect for official occasions, such as weddings and festivals, they may also be worn for informal meetings.
